Four things that most people believe in but their actions belie.

Four things that most people believe in but their actions belie.

Shaqique Ibne Ibrahim rahmatullahi alayh says: People seem to agree with me when they say that they believe in four things, but their actions belie what they claim to believe:-

1 They say that they are slaves (bondsmen) of Allah Ta’ala, but their actions betray that they regard themselves to be freemen;

2 They say that Allah Ta’ala has taken upon Himself the responsibility to give us our sustenance, but they never rest content until they hoard enough of worldly provisions;

3 They say that akhirah (Hereafter) is preferable to this world, but they are ever engaged in amassing wealth, and are least concerned about akhirah.

4 They say that death is inevitable, but they are absorbed in worldly activities as though they were to live here forever.

The value of this world

The value of this world

On the Authority of Sahl Bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) it is related that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

“If the world was worth even the weight of a mosquito’s wing to Allah,
He would not let a disbeliever drink even a sip of water in it.”

[Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah]

“You prefer the worldly life (to the Aakhirah) whereas the Hereafter is best and everlasting.” (Al-Qur’an 87: 16-17)

Those who desire the life of this world

Those who desire the life of this world

Allah, The Most High says,

“Whosoever desires the life of this world and its adornment, we shall repay their deeds to them in it, and they will not suffer any short payment therein, they are those for whom there is nothing but the Fire in the hereafter, and vain are the deeds they did therein. And of no effect is that which they used to do.” [Al Qur’an 11:15,16]

Explanation

Qatadah (May Allah be pleased with him) said regarding this verse, “Whosoever’s concern, intention and goal is this worldly life, then Allah will reward them for their good deeds in this life. Then, when they reach the next life, they will not have any good deeds that will be rewarded. However, concerning the believers (who perform their good deeds sincerely for the sake of Allah), they will be rewarded for their good deeds in this life and in the Hereafter as well.” [Tafsir ibn Kathir]
