”Little are you grateful”

“Say it is He Who has created you, and endowed you with hearing (ears), seeing (eyes), and hearts: Little are you grateful. “

[AL Qur’an 67:23]

Explanation
“‘Say it is He Who has created you’, means He(swt) initiated your creation after you were not even a thing worth mentioning (i.e. nothing).’ Then He(swt) says, ‘and endowed you with hearing, seeing and hearts’, meaning intellects and powers of reasoning. ‘Little are you grateful’ means how little you use these abilities that Allah has blessed you with to obey Him, to act according to His commandments, and avoid His prohibitions.”[Tafsir ibn kathir]

The Dua of Rasullulah(saw) in the month of Rajab

It is mentioned on the authority of Anas Bin Malik (May Allah be pleased with him) that when the Holy Prophet (saw) sighted the moon of Rajab, he used to pray to Allah in the following words,

‘Allahuma Barik lana fi Rajaba wa Sha’bana wa ballighna Ramadhan’

“O Allah, make the months of Rajab and Sha’ban blessed for us, and let us reach the month of Ramadan (i.e. prolong our life up to Ramadan, so that we may benefit from its merits and blessings).”

The Sanctity of a believer

On the authority of Abdullah ibn Umar (May Allah be pleased with him and his father), who says that,

“I saw the Prophet (Peace be upon him) performing tawaf around the Ka’bah, saying (to the Ka’bah), ‘How pure you are! And how pure is your fragrance! How great you are! And how great is your sanctity! By He in whose hands lies the soul of Muhammad, the sanctity of a believer is greater with Allah than even your sanctity (i.e the Ka’bah). That is (the sanctity) of his wealth, his blood and that we think nothing of him but good.’”

Trials

It has been reported that the Prophet (Peace be upon him) once said,

“The greatest reward comes with the greatest trial. When Allah(swt) loves a people He tests them. Whoever accepts that wins His(swt) pleasure but whoever is discontent with that earns His(swt) wrath.”
[Tirmidhi and Ibne Majah]

“Fasting on the Day of ‘Arafah”

On the authority of Abu Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with him) it is related that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

“Fasting on the day of ‘Arafah absolves the sins for two years: the previous year and the coming year, and fasting on ‘Ashura, (the tenth day of Muharram) atones for the sins of previous years.”

[Muslim]

N.B This does not mean that one can continue to commit sin in the upcoming year, rather it portrays the virtue of fasting on the day of ‘Arafah, and the blessings to be obtained therein.

“Increasing the Remembrance of Allah in these 10 Days”

On the authority of Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) it is related that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

“There is no day more honourable in Allah’s sight and no acts more beloved therein to Allah than those in these ten days. So say tahlil (There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah: Laa ilaaha illallah), takbir (Allah is the greatest : Allahu Akbar) and tahmid (All praise is due to Allah : alhamdullillah) a lot [on these days].”

First Ten Days of Dhul Hijjah: Days of Virtue and Righteous Deeds

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) it is related that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

“There are no days more loved to Allah for you to worship Him therein than the ten days of Dhul Hijjah. Fasting any day during it is equivalent to fasting one year and to offer Salatul Tahajjud (late-night prayer) during one of its nights is like performing the late night prayer on the night of power. [i.e.,Lailatul Qadr].”

The vastness of Allah’s creation

Antares is the 15th brightest star in the sky. It is more than 1000 light years away.

The nearest star to us is approx 4 light years away.

I heard a story once, which I am paraphrasing. I don’t know of it’s authenticity but it is as follows:

Once Musa(AS) spoke to Allah(swt) and said to Allah, that “Oh Allah, you created all this(i.e, the Earth, its oceans, its land, the animals and every living thing, the heavens, the stars, the moon etc…) What was the purpose of all this creation?”

So Allah(swt) the Lord of the worlds, in order to demonstrate the vastness of His creation replied as follows:

Allah(swt) said “O Musa, I have got one Beast. And this Beast can consume the whole of this (i.e the whole universe) as one morsel of food. And not only have I got this one beast, but I have got many of these beasts, in a place of which only I know”

SUBHANALLAH!!!! Glorified be Allah! The creator of everything

And what is our significance before all this, yet it is mentioned that when a person is in prostration, that person is closest to Allah, as he is prostrating at the feet of Allah, the Most Merciful.

Calculation of a light year

A light year is 5,865,696,000,000 miles (9,460,800,000,000 kilometers).

Let’s say that a star is 1 million light years away. The light from that star has traveled at the speed of light to reach us. Therefore, it has taken the star’s light 1 million years to get here, and the light we are seeing was created 1 million years ago. So the star we are seeing is really how the star looked a million years ago, not how it looks today.

In the same way, our sun is 8 or so light minutes away. If the sun were to suddenly explode right now, we wouldn’t know about it for eight minutes because that is how long it would take for the light of the explosion to get here.

When Allah wishes good for a person

On the authority of Muawiyah (May Allah be please with him) it is reported that the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said,

“When Allah wishes good for someone, He bestows upon him the understanding of Deen”

[Bukhari and Muslim]

Explanation

“Knowledge and understanding of Deen (religion) here stands for the understanding of the Qur’an and Hadith, religious injunctions, and knowledge of the lawful and the unlawful. This Hadith highlights the excellence of knowledge and the fact that it is a sign of Allah’s Help to the person who possesses it and acts upon it.”
