Lesson: The is indeed a very true statement. Many people constantly worry about what others might think or what others may say, which leaves them in an almost perpetual state of worry and concern which is not healthy for a believer. Muslims should only be concerned about what Allah thinks of them and about how Allah views them. Our concern should only be Allah, and about observing the commandments of Allah and following the sunnah of the Prophet(saw). By adopting this attitude inshaAllah He(swt) Himself will make us appear honorable before the people, without us having even sought it.

Please spare a few minutes for an innocent man who has served seven long years of his life in high security prison, despite of having no charge or conviction of any kind against him, awaiting extradition and a subsequent trial in a country he has never set foot in. The extradition request is based on the same evidence gathered during 2003 raid, which the British courts of justice found insufficient to charge Babar Ahmad with any crime.

Babar’s family and friends have initiated a petition campaign on the government’s website demanding that Babar must be tried in this country, where crime is supposed to have been committed. The petition MUST get at least 100,000 signatures before 10/11/2011 for the parliament to consider this issue.

The Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Allah (swt) said: ‘Verily, from amongst My slaves is he whose faith cannot be rectified except by being inflicted with poverty, and were I to enrich him, it would surely corrupt him. Verily, from amongst My slaves is he whose faith cannot be rectified except by wealth and affluence, and were I to deprive him, it would surely corrupt him. Verily, from amongst My slaves is he whose faith cannot be rectified except by good health, and were I to make him sick, it would surely corrupt him. Verily, from amongst My slaves is he whose faith cannot be rectified except by disease and illness, and were I to make him healthy, it would surely corrupt him. Verily, from amongst My slaves is he who seeks worship by a certain act but I prevent that from him so that self-amazement does not enter his heart. Certainly, I run the affairs of My slaves by My Knowledge of what is in their hearts. Certainly, I am the All-Knower, All-Aware.‘”

The book contains selected Prophetic ḥadīth and narrations from the early Imāms on the Islamic imperative to work and engage in commerce taken from the book al-Ḥaththu ‘ala’l-Tijārah wal-Ṣinā‘ah of Imām Abu Bakr Aḥmed b. Muḥammad al-Khallāl al-Baghdādī al-Ḥanbalī (d. 311h).
